To Selma’s Wal-Mart on recently presenting several local agencies with donations.
Wal-Mart’s Manager Vic Morrow presented the donations. SABRA Sanctuary and the Salvation Army each received a grant check for $1,500 and the Selma Optimist Club was presented a $1,000 grant check.
To Alicia Rogers, who recently graduated from the University of Missouri St. Louis. Rogers received a Bachelor degree in criminal justice and criminology with a minor in communications. While attending UMSL, Rogers interned with the Department of Corrections and the Probation and Parole of St. Louis Missouri. She will also be starting a paid internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in January.
Rogers is the daughter of Diane Lumpkin of Orrville.
To the Alabama Power Foundation on their recent donation of $1,000 to the Crime Stoppers program of Selma and Dallas County. Alabama Power’s Billy Atchison, past Crime Stoppers Chairman, presented the check to current President Dr. Vance Kane, Secretary Cynthia Kane, Crime Stoppers Director Capt. Roy Freine of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and Claire Twardy of the Selma and Dallas County Centre for Commerce.
The Crime Stoppers program has led to approximately 10 arrests since its establishment two years ago.
To Tony Miles Jr. and Michael Carter both of Southside High School and Michael Johnson of Dallas County High School, who was honored recently at the 32nd Annual Dallas County All-Star Football Banquet held at Martin Middle School. Myles was awarded the Top Offensive Player award. While Carter was awarded the Top Defensive Player. Johnson was awarded the Most Valuable Player honors, and also received from Superintendent Wayne K. May, the county’s scholastic award.
