Shots dotted the St. James Hotel with bullet holes when a fight in a downtown nightclub wound up in the streets, shortly after midnight Friday.
Several shots were fired, hitting the St. James, according to police reports on the incident.
“It stemmed from an altercation at one of the downtown nightclubs,” Selma Police Public Relations Officer Lt. David Evans said.
The club was unidentified as of presstime.
No one was injured in the incident, but reports show that $2,000 worth of damage was done by bullet holes hitting the hotel.
The incident was called in by a hotel employee, Tawanda McNeil. McNeil was at work when the incident occurred.
Management at the hotel declined to comment on the incident specifically, saying only that they were concerned about the city’s safety in general.
“We’ll do everything we can to cooperate to make Selma safer,” Hotel manager Janet Dawkins said. “We’ll cooperate in any way with law enforcement.”
The hotel is owned by the city, who leases it to it’s current management.
Attempts to contact Mayor James Perkins were unavailable at the time of publication.
