ATLANTA – Bret Holliman seemed a bit thoughtful as he watched his teammates climb into the Georgia Dome stands and celebrate the Tigers’ 38-28 victory over Tennessee Sunday in Atlanta.

Holliman, a special teams gunner for the Tigers and a former AISA star at Morgan, allowed himself a few smiles and occasional waves to the crowd as he clutched his SEC champions T-shirt.

“It was a fun day.

I mean it’s been 15 years since Auburn won an SEC championship and it’s a great day when you get to be part of that team,” he said.

The win capped a remarkable 12-0 season for the upstarts from the Plains and marked the next to last college game in Holliman’s career.

“It still hasn’t even hit me yet, you know we’ve won another game,” he said. “It hasn’t hit me at all that we’re undefeated for the entire season.”

He may be the only one.

The talk throughout the Southeast and the nation is the three major undefeated teams vying for two slots in the championship Orange Bowl game in Miami.

Despite being SEC champs, Auburn is on the outside looking in.

While USC and Oklahoma will battle in the big game, Holliman and the Tigers will play against Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Jan. 3.

Still, Holliman says there’s no since in worrying about being left out.

Just like all season, the Tigers still have to take care of business.

“It’s something we can’t control,” he said. “That’s how we’ve been all year they put somebody in front of us and we beat them. We do what we can.”
