Dallas County takes two from Keith

A 24-point third quarter by Dallas County High School on Tuesday night broke open a close game and gave the Hornets a 71-55 win over the Keith Bears.
The Hornets (2-4) led by just two, 29-27, at halftime, but outscored Keith 24-17 in the third to push the lead to 53-44 entering the final period.
Dallas County used balanced scoring to record the win, led by Antonio Perry with 16 points. He was followed by Michael Johnson with 15 points, Josh Spears with 14 points, Artelious Dixon with 13 and Rafel Miller with nine.
In girls’ action, Dallas County scored its first victory of the season, beating Keith 45-44 in overtime.
Valencia King had 17 points
and four steals to lead the Lady Hornets. Takara Stewart added 11 points, while Samerra McGhee had 7 points and 10 rebounds.
“We played great defensively down the stretch,” Dallas County coach Roxanne Jones said. “We hit some key free-throws for the night.”
Dallas County was 6-of-10 from the foul line against Keith.
“We made drastic improvements in the week we had off,” Jones said. “I was very proud of the great defensive effort
. We just played smart basketball.”
Dallas County will host Selma High tonight.
