Selma’s interim police chief said answers are coming soon, but the department was unable to release further details on Sunday’s shootout Monday.

Two people were killed and eight others wounded in a shootout at Donnie Roy’s nightclub on Maxie Street around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Antonio Boggan, 21 of White Hall, and Robert Fails, 22 of Selma, were killed in the shooting.

Police were unable to give details on how or why the shooting started.

“We’re at a point that we don’t want to release what we’ve been able to gather so far,” Interim Police Chief Jacobs said. “But I’m certain that in a day or two we’ll have something to release concerning this investigation.”

In an ironic twist, Fails was awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to the Nov. 7, 2003 killing of Eric Huntingdon outside another Selma nightclub.

Fails was killed exactly one year later.

Police spokesman Joe Little said the department was pursuing all possible leads on Sunday.

Due to the injuries to some of the wounded, the police had to wait for interviews.

“There were still a number of witnesses that were in the hospital,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs said he expects a conclusion to the case soon.

“The investigation is ongoing. From what I’ve been told and briefed on, I feel very confident that there will be a conclusion within a couple of days,” he said.

On Sunday, Selma mayor James Perkins Jr. promised “no mercy” for the shooters, referring to his mercy/no mercy plan earlier this year. Perkins and city officials set up a don’t ask, don’t tell type gun drop off that allowed Selmians to turn in weapons with no questions asked. One gun was collected. Fails and Boggan are the 11th and 12th murders in the city of Selma this year.

“No mercy,” Perkins said on Sunday. “No mercy for the shooters. We’ve given people an opportunity (to turn in their guns) and at this point, no mercy. I’m asking the judges to forgo bonds. I’ve asked the chief (Robert Jacobs) to do everything within the department’s power to make the arrests swiftly. I’m asking the citizens to come forward and provide any information they have. They need to come forward and start talking.”
