Selma’s little monsters came out from hiding Friday afternoon to parade down Broad Street and celebrate Halloween in ghoulish fashion.

Around 30 creepy creatures, fairy princesses, fighting ninjas and zombies made their way through downtown Selma during the annual Halloween Monster March.

The Selma and Dallas County Public Library, the Downtown Selma Association and the Performing Arts Center sponsored the event.

The Halloween party began at the library with face painting, music, candy and toys for all the children.

“Sparky,” the mascot for the Selma Fire Department, also showed up for a visit and to help Monster March organizer Shebra Kidd lead the march.

After scaring everyone on Broad Street, the group traveled on to the Performing Arts Center for a costume contest.

Dylan Bamberg, dressed as a “Slime Bucket,” won the ugliest costume award.

A silver robot named Justin Burton took home the prize for the most original costume.

An infant Winnie the Pooh, otherwise known as Ross Jones, received the award for the funniest costume.

Satomi Kishi won the award for the scariest costume with her ghost outfit and T.J. Houser, dressed as a puppy, won the award for the cutest costume.

Each of the winners received a prize bag full of stuffed animals, money, bracelets, movies, a paint set and small toys.

The gifts were donated by Swift Drug Company, Carter Drug Company, Butler Truax Jewelers, the Lilly Pad, Changing Hands, and Pilcher-McBryde Drug Company.
