Clifton Tew

Clifton Tew, 82, of Geneva County, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at a nursing facility in Ozark.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 14, at New Teamon Baptist Church with the Rev. John Wayne Hicks and the Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Bottoms Garden Chapel directing.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Betty Tew of Slocom; daughters and son-in-law, Martha Reeder, Betty Overton, Sandra and Bobby Ziegler all of Dothan, Suzette and Wayne Banks of Selma, Marie and Willie Avera of Foley, Tersa and Bill Enfinger of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Grover and Juanita Tew , Clinton and Monnioe Ruth Tew of Slocomb, Grady and Hazel Tew; sisters, Flovadell Roach, Mozel and Bernice Onis Smith of Dothan; 16 grandchildren; 24 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; former wives, Essie Mae Tew of Slocomb and Maxine Tew of Selma.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Edward Tew, his parents, Clarence and Ida Boutwell Tew and sister, Gladys Tew Chavis.

Edwin Smith

Edwin Smith, 79, of Jemison, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at a hospital in Shelby County.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 14, at the Chapel of Martin Funereal Home with the Rev. Billy Wyatt and the Rev. Odean Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Lois G. Smith of Jemison; son, Jimmy Smith of Thorsby; daughter, Glenda Smith of Jemison; sister, Elizabeth Bearden of Selma; two grandsons, Brandon Smith of Jemison and Jason Smith of Thorsby; granddaughter, Heidi Hayes of Jemison; four great-grandchildren, Garin Hayes of Jemison, Gunner Smith of Thorsby, Ryan Smith and Blake Smith both of Jemison.

Mr. Smith was born on Dec. 6, 1924, in Bibb County. He was the son of the late Jim Smith and the late Mary Lou Blocker Smith. He served in the Army 1943-45.

Margaret Piper Palmiter

Margaret Piper Palmiter, 82, of Selma, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, October 15, at the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home with the Rev. George K. Jones Sr. and the Rev. Doug Chappelle officiating.

Graveside service will follow a New Live Oak Cemetery with Pastor Alan C. Yarbrough officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Charles (Marilyn) Palmiter of Kennedy; one daughter, Barbara K. Livingston of Selma; one brother, Charles L. Piper of Selma; one sister, Carolyn Piper of Mobile; four granddaughters, Stacy L. (Todd) Deavors of Selma, Ellen (Josh) Carroll of Ashford, Amanda Jones and Abby Palmiter of Kennedy; two grandsons, Neil Palmiter of Millport and Luke Palmiter of Kennedy; and one great-granddaughter, April Deavors of Selma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Palmiter and two brothers, Robert Piper and Lewis Piper.

Honorary pallbearers are nurses aids and faculty of Cahaba Hospice.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.

S. B. Ratliff

S. B. Ratliff, 77, of Selma, died Monday, October 11, 2004, at a Montgomery hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 14, at the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home with the Rev. George K. Jones Sr. and the Rev. Doug Chappelle officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Ratliff of Selma; son, Ronald Berry (Peggy) Ratliff of Selma; two daughters, Linda (Warren) McEachern and Janet (Ronnie) Etheridge all of Selma; three brothers, Willard (Louise) Ratliff and Cecil (Betty) Ratliff all of Chilton County and Bill (Harlen) Ratliff of Montgomery; two sisters, Emma Jean Tatum of Deatsville and Pauline (Hubert) Payton of Bessemer; six grandchildren, Lea Ann Sims, Daniel Roberts, Jason Potvin, Pamela Ratliff Betten, Jonathan Ratliff and Brandon Etheridge.; four great-grandchildren, Colton Roberts, Brody Roberts, James Betten and Dallas Betten.
