Cubia James

Cubia James, 82, of Demopolis, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at a nursing home in Birmingham.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Demopolis, with the Rev. Moses Jones Sr. officiating and Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

Norman Eugene Haupt

Norman Eugene Haupt, 72, of Selma, died Saturday, October 2, 2004, at a local nursing home.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 4, a Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Raker officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include daughters, Cindy (Mike) Bannister of Selma; Robbi (Michael) Greene of Ft. Deposit, Tina (Steve) Brewer of Selma; several brothers and sisters and four grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Justin Greene, Mark Schiafone, Steve Brewer, Mike Bannister, Mike Greene and Roger Roy.

Annie Watts

Annie Watts, 74, of Selma, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.

Lillie Mae Falkenberry

Lillie Mae Falkenberry, 95, of Monroeville, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at a nursing home in Centreville.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Tunnell Springs, with the Rev. Gary Miller and the Rev. Dorsey McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Family visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the church prior to the service.

Ms. Falkenberry worked for the Alabama Baptist Association and was a member of Monroeville First Baptist Church.

Nelle Stinson Smith

Nelle Stinson Smith, 76, of Tuscaloosa, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, at the Chapel of Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville with Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her daughter, Jacquelyn Stinson Smith-Kunze; son-in-law, Emil L. Kunze of Tuscaloosa; and various cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur P. Stinson and Laura Bell Griffin Stinson and sister, Joyce Stinson Candela.

Family visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.

Ms. Smith was retired from the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources where she was a social worker and supervisor of social worker for 30 years. She resided in Mobile form 1954-2001 when she moved to Tuscaloosa. She was a long-time active member of various clubs and organizations, including Australian Terrier Club of America, and Alabama’s United Daughters of he Confederacy. She graduated from the University of Montevallo with a teaching certificate in 1950, and later attended Tulane University in New Orleans, La., for a year of graduate school in the area of social work. She was a native of Wilcox County (Awin-Midway).

Richard Fountain

Richard Fountain, 90, of Miller’s Community, Linden, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at a nursing home in Demopolis.

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, October 4, at Bethlehem Cemetery with the Rev. Alfred Hudson officiating and Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

Wanda Gail Swindal Lewis

Wanda Gail Swindal Lewis, 52, of Gallion, died Sunday, October 3, 2004.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, at Payne’s Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Calvin Strickland officiating and Kidd-Robbins Chapel directing.

Survivors include husband, Arthur George Lewis of Gallion; daughter, Dena Elizabeth Smith and husband, Allen of Gallion; sons, Robert Barrett and wife Shelly of Thorsby, Bucky Barrett and wife Fran of Selma; stepson, Adam Lewis and wife Michelle of Five Points; mother, Verna Riley Swindal Strickland and husband Calvin of Selma; sister, Linda Roberts and husband Charles of Selma; eight grandchildren; great and great-greatgranchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Allen Swindal and a brother, Stanley Swindal.

Mrs. Lewis was a native of Marion and resident of Gallion for 30 years.

Samuel Lockett Jones Jr.

Samuel Lockett Jones Jr., died Monday, September 27, 2004.

Memorial and viewing services will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Selma. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery in Triange, Va.

Survivors include three daughters, Kyndria, Audra and Samantha of Selma; his mother, Carrie Jones of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Norman of Norman, N.C., Mark of Hempstead, N.Y., Clarence of Hyattsville, Md.; sisters, Benita, Catherine

and June of

Washington, D.C., Loretta of Olney, Md., and Luella of Darien, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Ethel Marie Rayford of Silver Springs, Md.; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Percy Rayford and grandmother, Roxie Rayford of Selma.

Mr. Jones was born and raised in New York. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and was honorably discharged. It was at this time he settled in Selma.

Morris Hatcher

Morris Hatcher, 37, of Selma, died Saturday, October 2, 2004.

Eva Edwards, 87, of Selma, died Monday, October 4, 2004, at a local nursing home.
