Defiant Run one of Selma’s high points

This year the Defiant Run featured a good turnout.

But perhaps best of all, the run had an increased sense of excitement for the participants and the community as well.

Last year, Frank Hardy decided to do a little bit to help unify Selma, which like many other cities, desperately needs it.

He started the Defiant Run.

When he did, he determined that the run would have to grow over time, a delightful attitude, as it displayed Hardy’s willingness to stick to his goal.

With time, Hardy wants to make the run one of the biggest in the state, if not the Southeast.

And the STJ hopes he does.

Selma is a city with problems, like all cities.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that we have to keep trying to solve our problems.

Perfection is a journey, not a destination, and it’s nice to know that Hardy realizes this.

Everyday, if citizens want to make their city perfect, they’ve got to keep trying.

While an event like the Defiant Run isn’t expected to end racism, violence or world hunger, it can be expected to bring good people together and allow them to meet and relate to each other.

If accomplishments are a measure of perfection, then it must be conceded, in this area at least, Hardy and the participants of the Defiant Run have achieved perfection.

On Saturday, about 50 area residents came together, engaged in a little friendly competition and got to know each other better.

Next year, more will come.

If people commit to it, and come together, then maybe all the other problems will be a little easier to deal with as time goes by.

As long as Selmians continue to try and solve their problems and work toward their goals, then it might just be possible to achieve perfection, or at least get close to it.
