Selma Post Office employees raised a new flag Wednesday in celebration of their excellence performance rating in the Customer Satisfaction Measurement survey.

Selma Postmaster James Howard said the Alabama District of the United States Post Office recently received the prestigious Order of the Yellow Jersey award, which recognizes high service levels in accuracy of delivery, consistency of delivery and professionalism in serving customers.

Every district post office received a flag featuring the USPS logo with an eagle emblazoned in yellow. It was designed to mimic the symbol of excellence worn by the winner of the Tour de France bicycle race.

The USPS sponsors Lance Armstrong, six-time winner of the Tour de France, and the Pro Cycling Team.

“Every post office across the state will be flying these flags for the month,” Howard said.

After the flag raising, Selma employees and customers were given a free breakfast to celebrate the achievement.

According to Howard, post offices across Alabama were supposed to raise their OJY flag at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

“It was a moment to congratulate themselves on a job well done,” Howard said.
