Selma Fire Chief Henry Allen was taken into police custody Wednesday on a misdemeanor warrant for harassment.

According to police reports, Miles Walter, who lives in the 200 block of Perham Avenue, filed an arrest warrant against the fire chief as a result of a ongoing confrontation between the two men.

Capt. Joe Harrell of the Selma Police Department, serving as acting police chief in the absence of Chief Robert Green, said the complaint stems from an Aug. 12 incident involving Allen’s complaints about being bitten by a dog.

Allen has appeared several times and made complaints to the Selma City Council regarding a “vicious” dog that had been returned to its owner after the dog allegedly bit him.

“Chief Allen and the owner of the dog have apparently been unable to agree upon a satisfactory resolution to this matter,” Harrell said.

As a result of this disagreement, Harrell says, a confrontation occurred and a warrant was signed. Harrell refused to comment further on the matter or release any more details about the investigation.

Numerous attempts to reach Allen for comment were unsuccessful.

Mayor James Perkins Jr. was also not available for comment.

Allen was booked, processed, and released on bond. A hearing on this matter will take place in the Selma Municipal Court.
