The Morgan Academy varsity volleyball team won a pair of matches Tuesday to improve to 4-0 on the young season.
In their first match, the Lady Senators rallied to beat Macon East, 2 games to 1.
Morgan Academy trailed for much of the first game and trailed 24-19 before scoring four consecutive points to get back to within one.
But the Lady Senators were unable to get their fifth straight point, as their service went into the next and Macon East took the opening game.
In the second game, Morgan Academy got some solid setting and hitting from several players to record a 25-17 victory. The Lady Senators’ win seemed to deflate Macon East as Morgan Academy easily won the deciding third game, 15-5.
In their second match of the day, the Lady Senators coasted to an easy 25-20, 25-4 win over Hooper Academy.
Morgan Academy head coach Rick Blevins credited back row setter Kyser Youngblood and many others for their fine play.
“Kyser is one of our most consistent servers,” Blevins said. “She did a good job on the service line today.
“(Outside hitter) Caroline Woodruff played well at the net,” Blevins added. “She’s a solid front row player and server for us.”
Blevins added that Elizabeth Elliott, Ashley Ralston, Elizabeth Wood, Kayla Pegues, Glennis Bradsell, Leslie Britton, Carrie Glover and Ashley Harrison also played well.
The Lady Senators’ junior varsity team, however, didn’t fare as well, dropping two of three games to Macon East.
The Lady Senators fell 25-21 in the first game, then rallied to win the second game, 25-18. However, Macon East took the match with a 15-10 decision in the third game.
Sarah Hughey, Jaye Lyn Lawrence and Anna Ralston played well offensively for the Lady Senators, while Erica Friday, Anna Clair Logan, Laura Lee Logan and Sarah Stewart played well on defense.
