Fire damages home in Selmont

Smoke poured from the roof of a white home with blue shutters on the end of Eisenhower Street Monday night in Selmont.
As neighbors gathered to watch, Selma firemen went inside to finish putting out the blaze. As they worked, occasional blasts of water shot through the roof, blowing shingles into the yard.
Occasional plumes of fire still shot from between the outer wall and the roof, further charring the Christmas lights dangling for the eaves.
From the outside, it appeared that the home suffered major damage.
Captain Kevin Brooks of the Selma Fire Department said no one was home at the time of the blaze and no one had been injured.
“We talked to the owner, she said she had left and had some clothes in the dryer, we’re looking at that,” Brooks said. “The room that she said the dryer was in was heavily involved so we’re checking that out, we’re just checking all angles right now.”
Brooks said the department arrived on the scene quickly after being called.
“I would say we got here in two to three minutes,” Brooks said. “It had vented through the roof and was well involved on one end, the back corner here. (There is) a lot of smoke and water damage throughout the house, we really don’t know how much right now until we get all the spot fires out.”
