Nicole Jefferson was shot in the back of the
Saturday, according to police reports and relatives.
Her boyfriend Danny Craig, 34, according to Jefferson’s aunt Patricia Jenkins, shot Jefferson, then killed himself with a .38 caliber handgun at Jefferson’s home on Edgewood.
The incident was reported by Jefferson’s neighbor, Tamera Mayo, shortly after 10 a.m. that morning.
According to Jefferson’s aunt, Patricia Jenkins, Jefferson recently broke up with Craig about three weeks ago. Jenkins said that Craig was abusive.
“He’s always been a violent person,” she said.
Craig was the father of four of Jefferson’s six children.
Jenkins said the children weren’t harmed during the incident.
“I want to get them some counseling,” she said.
Craig allegedly went to Jefferson’s home to take his children before the incident occurred, according to Jenkins.
Jenkins said that two of the children were on the premises when the crime occurred.
Jefferson was resting from a second-shift job in Prattville according to her aunt.
The 28-year-old Jefferson was shot in the back of the neck, near the base of the skull. She was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center, then to an unidentified hospital in Birmingham.
She’s currently in stable condition, according to Jenkins.
“The doctors in Selma and Birmingham said it’s a miracle,” Jenkins said. “God just wasn’t ready for her.”
Jenkins also said that Jefferson was conscious and responsive.
“On the whole she is doing pretty well. She can talk a little bit,” Jenkins said.
The STJ was unable to contact relatives of Danny Craig as of presstime.
