G. Davis

Winnie G. Davis, 98, formerly a resident of Farmersville, Alabama, died at a Montgomery nursing home on Friday, August 6, 2004.

Services will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Farmersville United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus G. Davis. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth Davis, and Ellen D. Rogers, as well as two sons, Joe C. Davis and Perry C. Davis. She is survived by two daughters Jean Sheets and Peggy (Jerry) Casey, and daughter-in-law Sadie Davis. She is survived by 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Farmersville Cemetery Fund, Box 707 Till Road, Minter, AL 36761.

Robert Brown

Robert Brown, 39, of Demopolis, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 8, at St. Tabernacle Church of Christ, Demopolis, with Elder Frank Stiff officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Cemetery in Demopolis with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Willie Purse

Willie Purse, 82, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Demopolis, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Demopolis, with the Rev. Wilson Crum and the Rev. Alex Reese officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Cemetery in Demopolis with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Roxie Rivers

Roxie Rivers, 49, of Minter, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, at a Montgomery hospital.

Services are at 12 noon Sunday, August 8, at Friendship Baptist Church in Minter with the Rev. Allen Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in Rivers-Gaines Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her mother, Pearlie Rivers; three sons, William Rivers, Melvin (Tanjaii) Rivers and Christopher Rivers; one daughter, Shalisa (Chris) Carter; three borthers, Jimmy Rivers, Felbert Rivers and Lee Rivers; six Dolores Porter, Dorothy Mills, Geneva Rivers, Jennie Moore, Rosie Hall and Jacqueline Atkins; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lucinda Carter

Lucinda Carter, 95, of Demopolis, died recently at a Demopolis hospital.

Graveside memorial services were held Saturday, August 7, at Limestone Cemetery in Gallion with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Porter Ester Harrison

Porter Ester Harrison, 94, of Centreville, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at a healthcare facility.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Pineland Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Teague officiating and Rockco’s Funeral Home, Inc. directing.

Survivors include one brother, Odean Harrison of Selma; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Kelly; three grandchildren, Jennice Jent, Terri Wright and Kathy McAtee; two great-grandchildren, Collin McAtee and Noah Sikes-Wright; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leslie E. Harrison and one son, Porter Harrison Jr.

Active pallbearers are Billy Howard Bolding, Ed Brown, Bobby Cooper, Charles Harrison, Bill Hamm, Scott Thompson, Lee Williams and Ovid Merchant.

Mr. Harrison was a member of Randolph Baptist Church.

George Washington Osburn

George Washington Osburn, 85, of Selma, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Stover officiating. Burial followed in Ivey Chapel Cemetery in Sprott, with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors included daughters, Joy “Cricket” (Bobby) Barnette and Debbie (James) Phillips of Selma, and Edna Earl (Don) Morris of Greensboro; sons, Wayne (Frankie) Osburn of Greensboro and Andrew “Doug” (Rose) Osburn of Selma; sisters, Gladys (Robert Lee) Edwards of Selma, Josephine (Dewey) Webb of Linden and Carolyn of Marion; brothers, Luther (Judy) Osburn of Marion and Charles (Jean) Osburn of Linden; uncle, Harvey Edwards of Selma; grandchildren, Jessica Jones, Cassie Kinman, Kenneth “Bootie” (Cindy) Osburn Jr., Michelle (Bubba) Adams, Amanda (Tim) Latham, Eric Brooks, Andy Osburn, Amber Osburn all of Selma, Todd (Tonya) Osburn of Greensboro, Craig (Lisa) Osburn of Greensboro, Ashley (Elbert) Patterson of Tuscaloosa, Donna (Berry) McMillan of Mississippi, Carrol (Phillip) Townsend of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, Dalton Jones, Amy & Hannah Rinehart, Dillion &Taylor Osburn, Austin Latham, Cody Brooks, Brittney, Brian, Kristen, Brody & Killy Osburn, Cole McMillan and Carol Lynn Townsend.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Osburn Sr., brothers, Clifton Osburn and Howell Osburn, sisters, Ruby Carter Foxworth and Marth Stokes.

Active pallbearers are Todd Osburn, Craig Osburn, Kenneth “Bootie” Osburn, Jay Hobson, Bubba Adams and J.R. Grace.

Honorary pallbearers are Lewis Williams, Henry Giles, Dr. Park Chittom II, Bobby Barnette Jr., Bobby Gann and Men’s Ministry of First Church of the Nazarene.

Special friends, Lewis and Barbara Williams, Henry and Susie Giles and Bobby Barnette Sr.

Mr. Osburn was a World War II veteran and received many medals for his combat duties and bravery. After the war until his retirement he worked as a motor grader operator for W. S. Newell. His hobbies were gardening and growing flowers fishing and his two dogs, Hobo and Tramp.

Freddie M. Mayfield, of Selma, died Monday, August 2, 2004.

Clifford C. Carroll

Clifford C. Carroll, 61, of Cantonment died Friday, August 6, 2004 in a local hospital. Clifford was born November 10, 1942 in Mobile, Alabama and was raised in North Louisiana and had been a resident of Alabama and Florida.

He was a Chemical Engineer and was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford George and Mary Lou Carroll. He is survived by his wife: Cynthia Gail Cooper Carroll; sons, George Steven Carroll (Regina) of Louisiana, Robert G. Allbritten (Rose) of Ohio, James W. Allbritten (Dorothy) of Alabama; daughters, Mary R. Lowery of Cantonment, Linda G. Carroll of Cantonment, Sharon L. Beck (Edward) of the Netherlands, Lori L. Hernandez (Jesse) of Alabama; sister, Mary Ann Kopf (Gary) of Iowa; brother, William George Carroll (Margaret) of Florida; nieces, Vikki E. Migoya (David) of Colorado, Sondra S. Gates (Ben) of Iowa, Kristen J. Mooney (Scott) of Iowa; nephew,

Clifford Carroll of Florida; first cousin, Nancy Carroll Stewart of Dallas, TX; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Faith Chapel North Cantonment with Rev. John Gaiens officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2004 at the funeral home.

Frank Bumpers, 66, of Selma died Friday, August 6, 2004 at a local hospital.

Robert “Bobby” M. Criswell

Robert “Bobby” M. Criswell, 66, of Minter, died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2004 in New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Lee Tate officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a wife, Deloris A. Criswell; son, Steven M. Criswell and his wife Jenny M.; daughter, Cindy C. Dailey and her husband Alan; granddaughter, Lauren Criswell; grandsons, Joshua Criswell, Will Dailey, Walter Dailey, and James Dailey.

Active pallbearers will be Boyd E. Pugh, Randy Pugh, Joshua Criswell, Will Dailey, Alan Dailey, Walter Dailey, and James Dailey.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Cahaba Hospice or Central Alabama Animal Shelter.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Mr. Criswell was a life long member of VFW.
