Orlando “Bubba” Bernard Tate, of Selma, appeared in District Judge Nathaniel Walker’s court for charges of first-degree sodomy against a 7-year-old boy.
Tate, a 17-year-old, is being charged as an adult in the crime.
He was arrested June 25 for allegedly forcing himself on a young relative.
The victim was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center for treatment shortly after the incident occurred.
The child’s mother filed a complaint with the Selma Police almost immediately after transporting the boy to the hospital.
The complaint was originally filed on June 22.
Walker assigned an attorney to Tate’s case at the hearing Tuesday. Fred McCormick, a local lawyer, will represent Tate in the case. Calls to
McCormick were not immediately returned.
The original bond was also considered. Walker left it unchanged at $50,000. Tate is still being held in the Dallas County Jail.
Tate has been charged in the past with two counts of theft of property, shoplifting, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. All were misdemeanor charges.
He is expected to appear in court on August 10 for the preliminary hearing in the case.
