A crowd gathered and more than a dozen cars stretched around Main Street late Monday night as police investigated a possible homicide.
Police found a dark-colored, four-door sedan containing two bodies on a small dirt road connecting Main with the Highway 41 bypass.
Both were apparent victims of gunshot wounds, according to police.
Police kept the car shrouded in white cloth to prevent the crowd from viewing the scene.
Approximately a dozen police officers, Dallas County Deputies, an evidence technician and an ambulance were on the scene just across the railroad tracks at the southern end of the bypass.
The car, with a handicapped license plate, was parked next to a stand of brush out of sight from the bypass.
According to Alan Dailey, Dallas County Coroner, one of the bodies has been identified. Dailey said the other wouldn’t be identified until the family could do so.
Police didn’t provide the identity of either of the victims. They were observed collecting evidence from the car.
Police officials said the case is being investigated as a homicide and that both bodies would be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to verify the cause of death.
Officials said more details would be released today.
