Camp Grist to kick off season

School’s out and camp’s on – YMCA Camp Grist – which has been serving Selma and Dallas County young people for 58 years.
The seven counselors and their director gathered last week at the Grist YMCA to lay their plans for the summer.
Camp Grist will host seven camps this year for ages 4 through 12, beginning June 7 and ending July 24.
This year’s counselors are all veterans and are juniors and seniors in high school. The camp director is Allen Bearden, a native Selmian, who is a teacher at the School of Discovery.
Allyson Dansby, YMCA recreation/teen director,
and YMCA CEO Angie Miller are assisting as staff.
The counselors are Clayton Cogle, Jerome Deese, Elizabeth Elliott, Cate Gilmer, Ellis Talton, Elizabeth Watters, Claire Wilkenson and Caroline Woodruff.
Dansby said that renovations at the camp are ongoing and expressed appreciation to volunteers who went out early to get the camp ready for the season.
