Rally lifts Morgan

A fifth-inning rally proved to be the difference as home-standing Morgan stormed back and took the 5-3 win over Meadowview Thursday afternoon.

Cate Gilmer’s bases-loaded double made the difference as Morgan took tied the game with two runs home.

Elizabeth Gilmer followed with a single that plated two more runs and put Morgan in the lead.

After a bit of a slow start, Laura Whitney-Bennett settled down and held the Lady Trojans (17-7) in check.

With the win, Morgan improved to 7-17 on the year.

Bennett held Meadowview to three runs on seven hits.

For Meadowview, Micah Lolley was strong except for the fifth when a couple of singles and a walk led to the big rally. Lolley allowed six hits on the day, but four came in the fifth.

Laura Whitney Bennett scored twice without a hit for Morgan.

Elizabeth Watters had two singles and a run scored. Cate Gilmer had a double and two RBIs.

Elizabeth Gilmer added two singles and two RBIs.

Anne Larkin Oaks had a single and scored.

For Meadowview, Kasey Burton scored twice and had a single. Haley McIntyre had a two singles and a run scored. Elyse McIntyre had a double and a single.

Lolley added a double for the Lady Trojans.

Meadowview got off to a fast start as Burton reached on an error.

She scored on E. McIntyre’s double.

Meadowview added two more in the third as Burton got a one-out single, then H. McIntyre followed with a single.

E. McIntyre flied out to Carrie Glover at second.

Lolley then followed with a double that gave Meadowview a three-run lead.

It was all Morgan after that.

Bennett got on base on an error and came around to score when Kayla Pegues reached on an error.

Meadowview threatened to extend the lead again in the fifth as H. McIntyre singled.

She tried to come home on E. McIntyre’s single but Watters gunned her down at the plate and killed the rally.

Morgan took the lead in the fifth.

Oaks got things going with a one-out single.

Watters came up with a two-out single and Bennett loaded the bases with a walk.

C. Gilmer smashed a double to center, the E. Gilmer brought two more runs home.

Meadowview never mounted a serious challenge and Morgan walked away with the win.
