Joseph Darden Moore

Joseph Darden Moore, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Dallas County, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at a hospital in Ohio.

Survivors include, his wife, Margaret S. Moore; son, Joseph Moore Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Martha Patton of Atlanta, Ga.; step-daughter, Mattie Shannon of Cincinnati, Ohio; grand-daughter, Destiny Moore of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Addison, Lloyd, and John Moore of Bessemer; sister, Martha Moore of Selma; sisters-in-law, Ada and Etta Williams of Cincinnati, Ohio and Addie Moore of Bessemer; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos & Luella Moore; step-son, William Shannon; brothers, Lee, Robert, Amos, Smith, and James Moore; sisters, Bertha, Mattie, Ammie, Annie Moore, Mary Watts, and Leona Russell, grandparents, Patrick and Abbie Moore, Eli and Mattie Darden.

Mr. Moore was born August 1, 1933, in Dallas County/ Selma, to the late Amos and Luella Darden Moore. He confessed Christ at a young age and united with the Little Rock Baptist Church, Selma, under the pastorate of Rev. L. T. Thompson.

He received his education in the Selma City Public School System and received a high school diploma from R. B. Hudson High School Class of 1955. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Margaret Shannon and to this union two children were born.

He was employed as a Food Service Employee, in Alabama and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Henry Leroy Huffman Sr.

Henry Leroy &8220;Buddy&8221; Huffman. Sr., of Mobile, formerly of Selma, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at a healthcare facility in Mobile.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma. Arrangements by Radney Funeral Home Dauphin Street Extension, Mobile.

Survivors include one son, Charles D. Huffman; one daughter, Barbara H. Buchanan; two grandsons, Andrew D. Huffman and Eric C. Huffman; two granddaughters, Cynthia McKinley and Margaret Buchanan; grandchildren, Kayla, Mandi, Drew, Sterling, Evan, Sierra, Dillon, Kara, Haley, Cammille and Harleigh; one sister, Ernestine Huffman; nieces, nephews, other relatives.

Family visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 16, at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, and at noon on Saturday, Apr. 17, at Lawrence

Funeral Home in Selma.

Mr. Huffman was a member and deacon of Belleview Baptist Church and was a retiree of Southern Railroad after 34 years of service.

Amanda Maxine Calloway

Amanda Maxine Calloway, 16, of Satsuma, a native of Mobile, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at a Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Survivors include her father, Timothy Brian Calloway of Daphne; mother, Robin Calloway of Satsuma; brother, Ethan Calloway of Satsuma; sister, Courtney Calloway of Daphne; grandparents, Frank and Maxine Calloway of Selma and Aline Anderson of Satsuma; aunts and uncles, Frank (Willene) Calloway, Jr. of Demopolis, Oscar Wayne Calloway of Selma, Walter Anderson of Mobile, Frank (Hazel) Anderson of Spanish Fort, Billy (Naomi) Anderson of Gulf Shores, Patricia (Jesse) Phillips of Mobile, and Katherine Anderson of Mobile; cousins, other relatives, and many beloved friends.

Amanda attended Satsuma High School, where she was a member of the Cayman Prodigy Scholastic &8220;A&8221; Color Guard. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Mobile.

Family visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Pine Crest Funeral Home.

Donald Hayes

Donald Hayes, 49, of Hayneville/Gordonville, died Friday, April 9, 2004.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church #2. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah #1 churchyard cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Willie Mae Maxwell

Willie Mae Maxwell, 85, of New York, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in New York.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday. April 17, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. James McBride Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Old Ellwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a host of cousins, one sister-in-law, Willie Mae Mosley; nephew, Rev. James (Linda) McBride Sr. of Brent; special friend, Gladys Oden of New York.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bo Maxwell.

Active pallbearers are friends of the family.

Willie James Cole

Willie James &8220;Duke&8221; Cole, 43, of Marion, died Monday, April 12, 2004 in Marion.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Cole AME Methodist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Curry; mother, Sara Emma Cole; one son, Willie James Cole Jr.; three stepsons, Deandre Curry of California (U.S. Navy), Jimmy Davis of Savannah, Ga., and Daniel Curry of Montgomery; two daughters, Rebecca Marie Curry and Tre Lawny Curry; one brother, Jerry Cole of Dallas; two sisters, Sara Ann Cole and Emma Ford; one aunt, Rosa Lewis of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Cole family men.

Elmira M. Melton

Elmira M. Melton, 94, of Selma, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. Burial will follow in Perryville Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Baby Denise Alexander

Baby Denise Alexander, of Selma, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Cager Suttles

Cager Suttles, of Sprotts, died Thursday, April 8, 2004.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Ophelia G. Carter

Ophelia G. Carter, 101, of Selma, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at a local nursing home. Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Watson officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John &8220;Buck&8221; Carter, and two sons, Henley Carter and John Burton Carter.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harold C. Cosby of Selma, and Hilda (Sammy) Griffin of Stanton; one son, Don (Faye) Carter of Valley Grande; one sister, Lelia Harrison of Alexander, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2004.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ebenezer Cemetery Fund.

Arneatha J. Burrell

Arneatha J. Burrell, 81, of the Lock 5 community in Greensboro, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, in a Huntsville nursing home. Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. W.J. Long officiating and Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors directing.

Interment will follow in the Greensboro Cemetery.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at noon.

Flora Fluker-Jones

Flora Fluker-Jones, 54, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Friday, April 9, 2004. Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Moscow Baptist Church in Demopolis with the Rev. Mitchell Congress officiating and Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors directing.

Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Lonzbell Sanders

Lonzbell Sanders, 27, of Coatopa, died Friday, April 9, 2004, in Pascagoula, Miss. Services are at noon on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Bethel Pine Baptist Church in Coatopa with the Rev. John Sanders officiating and Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors directing.

Interment will follow in Dugg Hill Cemetery in Coatopa.
