Dallas County cinches at least tie for area title with an 8-3 win over Holt

Dallas County’s first five batters of the first inning reached base and scored to give the Hornets all the runs needed to beat the Holt Ironmen 8-3 Tuesday.
The Ironmen scored a run in the opening inning on a single, a stolen base, a passed ball and a wild pitch to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Hornets came back in their half of the first with Roman Paxton getting hit by a pitch,
Chase Knight sliced a double to left center to score Paxton.
Clint Cooper then singled and stole second.
The next batter, Justin Hollis got hit by a pitch to load the bases. His brother Tyler Hollis followed with a double off the left field wall driving in two runs.
J. Hollis scored on a groundout then T. Hollis scored on
an error to put the Hornets up 5-1 after one.
Pitcher J. Hollis shut the Ironmen down in the second and third innings. The Hornets put two runs across the plate in the second inning on a single by Knight, J. Hollis hit by a pitch again, and another double to left by T. Hollis, followed by a groundout by Shane Moreland.
It began to rain when Jonathon Sherrill led off the fourth inning for Holt with a homerun over the leftfield fence.
J. Hollis went on to strikeout the next three batters.
In their half of the fourth J. Hollis answered with a shot down the line over the high left field wall to add another run for the Hornets. Matthew Ross came in to pitch in the fifth for the Hornets. The Ironmen added another run in the sixth inning on a double and a single.
Dallas County (13-4) finished with eight runs on eight hits with two errors.
J. Hollis pitched four innings, giving up two runs, two hits. He also struckout eight and walked three to record the win.
T. Hollis led the Hornets with two doubles and three RBI’s. Knight contributed two hits and two runs scored. Moreland recorded two RBI’s. J. Hollis reach base four times, was hit by pitch three times, and scored three runs. Cooper and Justin Irwin each added a hit.
Holt finished with three runs, on five hits with an error.
