Herman Gary
Herman &8220;Jay Bird&8221; Gary, 69, of Selma, died April 12, 2004.
Graveside services are set for Thursday, April 15, at 11 a.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home is officiating. Herman Gary is survived by a host of Boscoe friends and members, and a special friend Mr. Robert &8220;Shot It&8221; Craig.
Mr. Gary was a longtime employee of Good Samaritan Hospital and the Deluxe Cab Company in the early 50s and 60s. He was a dedicated Boscoe member throughout his lifetime and an accomplished drummer with the &8220;Skin&8221; Lewis Trio.
Henrietta Till Lewis
Henrietta Till Lewis of Selma went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 11, from the Park Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13 at First Baptist Church with the Dr. Jerry Gunnells, Rev. Lee Tate and Dr. David Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home Directing.
She was preceded in death by her parents William Paul Till, Sr., Henrietta Coston Till.
She attended Huntingdon College and graduated from Auburn University.
She received her masters degree from the University of Alabama.
She was retired from the Selma City School System where she taught first grade at Meadowview Elementary School for many years.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she served as a nursery Sunday School teacher for more than 20 years.
She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, Daughters of the American Revolution and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include: Husband of 35 years: Larry Fermon Lewis of Selma.
Son: David William (Stacey) Lewis of Prattville.
Daughter: Catherine Lewis (Paul) Thomas of Selma.
Brother: William Paul (Pam) Till Jr. of Birmingham.
Four Grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth Thomas, Madeline Elizabeth Lewis, Margaret Emily Lewis and Andrew Paul Thomas.
Active pallbearers: Harold Speir, James Hines, Forrest Hatfield, Jamie Wallace, Dr. Wes Acee and Randy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers: AGAPE Sunday School Class, Maverick Sunday School Class, Elton McGaha, Dr. Nick Knight, Dr. Julian Howell, Dr. Jerry Dillard, Frank Bolen, Bruce Peake, Alex Cooper, Gerald Anderson and Dr. David Thomas.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
The family received friends Monday, April 12 from 6 -8 p.m. in the Mallory Parlor at The First Baptist Church.
