Clarice D. Callines

Clarice D. Callines, 61, of Jones, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Jones.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, Apr. 10, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Callen officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Gregory Callines; one daughter, Edna L. Callines; one brother, James Callines Sr.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and a host of nephews and nieces; other relatives, Marth Ann Allen and Fannie L. Walker.

Active pallbearers are grandsons.

Walter Jones Sr.

Dea. Walter Jones Sr., died Monday, March 22, 2004.

Services were held on Saturday, March 27, at First M.B. Church in Ozark, with Rev. Dr. S.C. Jackson officiating and Trawick Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his six children; three sisters, Malisa Curtis, Ethylene Nettles. Helen Darden: one brother Massey (Carrie) Jones all of Selma: two brothers-in-law, Golden Eaton of Selma, Lee Edward Bell of, Detroit, Mich.; four sisters-in-law, Juanita Jones

of Selma, Mar,, Rosie McReynolds of Birmingham, Marion Keith of Detroit, Mich., Catherine Jones of San Diego, Calif.; 18 grandchildren: Andre Flowers, Pierre and Sharonda Dyck, Walter Jones III, Richard Dyck, Ashley Flowers, Artez Jones, Byron Dyck, Jasmine and Joseph Jones, Jr., Michelle Jones.

Walter Jones, Sr. Special was born Feb. 29, 1928, to the late Mattie and William, Jones in Dallas County, the fifth of 10 children. He loved life, people, and living.

As a youth, he learned to love and serve the Lord as a member of’ El Bethel Baptist Church in Selma.

Mr. Jones joined the Navy in 1946 and served during the Korean War. After serving in the military, he graduated from R. B. Hudson High School and attended Selma University. While at Selma University. He met the late Johnnie Mae Bell. Realizing that God had sent him a special woman, he married Johnnie Mae on January 31, 1955. God blessed this union with six children, Gloria Jones (Keith Walker) of Tuskegee, Walter (Tonderleria) Jones of Montgomery, Lyvetta Renee (Pierre) Dyck of Ozark, Wanda Faye (Timothy) Flowers of Enterprise, Jennifer Jones (Bruce) Ray of Montgomery, Joseph Kelvin (Wanda) Jones of Ozark.

In 1962 the family moved to Ozark. Later, the family united with the First Missionary Baptist Church. Walter served wherever needed. He worked as a member of the Usher Board, Laymen Sunday School Class #3, the Deacon Board. He enjoyed assisting in the kitchen so that he could be the first one to taste the food. Mr Jones was past president of the New, Era #2 District Sunday School and BTU Congress, and very active in the Southeast District Laymen. In the community, he was a member of Euclid Lodge 968 of Free and Accepted Masons and the Disabled American Veteran Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Mae, four brothers, Abe (Ed), William, Clarence and Calvin, a sister, Louise Eaton, two sisters-in-law, Lula Fuller and Edna Jones, a brother-in-law, Harry Curtis, and a son, Glenn Robbins.

Julia Woodson McGilberry

Julia Woodson McGilberry of Camden, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at her home.

Services were a 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill with the Rev. William Ernest, pastor of the Pine Apple Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Pitman McGilberry; three nephews, Sam D. Woodson Jr., David G. Woodson both of Camden and Danny Woodson of Montgomery; and a number of great-nieces and nephews

Active pallbearers were Dennis McGillberry, Dave Woodson, Kyle woodson, Clyde Murphy, Samuel Woodson and Mike Prine.

Mrs. was confined to her home several months and during her confinement, she was faithfully cared for by her husband J P McGilberry, great-niece Margaret Woodson Murphy, with the assistance of Pearlean Nelson, Ora D. Manzie and other caregivers.

Mrs. McGilberrv was the daughter of the late John Samuel and Zola Higdon Woodson. Two brothers, Dossie and John Woodson, preceded her in death. She was born May 7, 1907, at Hamburg. Later the family moved to Allenton where she grew to maturity. Following her early education in Oak Hill and graduated from Moore Academy in Pine Apple, she became a student at Troy State Teacher’s College. After graduating from the college, she taught at various public schools in Wilcox County. She was life-long member of the Methodist Church. Having been a part of the Shiloh Methodist and Pine Apple Methodist Churches’ congregations in years past, she was a member of the Camden Methodist church at the time of her death. She married J. P. McGilberry, a native of Oak Grove, on October 5 1940. Following their marriage, his civil service work required them to live in a number of states. Over the years, they maintained a home in Allenton and several years ago they moved to Camden.

Mildred Watson Albritton

Mildred Watson Albritton, 97, of Camden, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at a Birmingham hospital.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Camden Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Davis officiating and Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a nephew, William D. Watson (Paula) of Urbana, Ill.; two nieces, JoAnn ford Waters of Montgomery and Jane Ellen Watson Tanner of Hoover.

Active pallbearers were Hampton Tanner, Forrest Waters III, Ford Warters, Richard Bisso, Bill Albritton, J.W. Dunham, Robert Battle and Dan Albritton.

In lieu flowers, donations may be made to Camden Baptist Church.
