Massey sparks rally

A 2-2 slugfest turned into a laugher Wednesday at Dallas County.
The Hornets went into the bottom of the sixth, knotted with Greensboro at two.
However, sparked by a solo homerun by sophomore Cody Massey, the Hornets left the inning with an 8-2 lead. They held on to win by that score.
Most of the fireworks came in the sixth as Massey went deep with one out to get things rolling.
Justin Irwin was hit in the calf on a bunt attempt to reach best next. Roman Paxton followed with a single, but Irwin was picked off of third.
It didn’t matter.
Chase Knight smashed a triple to left, then Clint Cooper singled.
Justin Hollis, who went the distance and struck out 11 on the mound, followed with a blooper-reel worthy double.
Hollis smacked the ball to right like a rocket.
He rounded second, thinking triple only to get the stop sign from Thomas.
Hollis’ feet got tangled as he tried to hold up and he hit the deck.
As he got up to scramble back to second, the throw to third came right at the pitcher.
Hollis nimbly dodged the ball and it rolled all the way into the Dallas County dugout.
Hollis was awarded two bases on the play and came all the way around to score.
Tyler Hollis followed his brother with a double, but he didn’t display the crowd-pleasing showmanship like Justin.
Shane Moreland added single that plated the younger Hollis.
Paxton ended the game with a pair of singles and two runs scored.
Knight, who drew a first inning walk, also scored twice in the win.
The eight runs was more than enough for the Hornets’ ace.
