His Francis Marion Rams team may have come up one game short of the playoffs, but senior Julius Allgood still had a chance to shine in Birmingham.

The senior swingman was invited to compete in the two-day dunk contest and he won the title Saturday night at halftime of the 5A championship game.

Allgood said he wasn’t intimidated by the large crowd, a record-breaker in Alabama High School basketball history.

Perform Allgood did.

He jammed home a windmill slam and another he threw of the glass to bring the house down.

The contestants had 45 seconds to do as many dunks as they could.

The best two counted for their score.

Allgood said some of the other contestants seemed a little nervous, but he felt fine.

For the senior who hasn’t made up his mind where he’ll go to college, it was a chance to prove himself in front of a big audience.

Jackson said the event, sponsored by Alabama Power, was a great chance for Allgood to make some contacts.

The player who averaged a double-double for the season took advantage.
