Selma Police Chief Robert Green said officers responded to a assault call in the 700 block of Minter Avenue around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to Green, a witness spotted the injured victim while walking down Minter Avenue. The unidentified witness told investigators the bleeding man advised him to &uot;call the police.&uot;
The victim, later identified as 37-year-old Morris Phillips, was
pronounced dead at Vaughan Regional Medical Center by Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey.
Phillips suffered from wounds to his head and left arm.
Green said the body was taken to the Department of Forensics Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.
There are no suspects at this time and the case is being investigated as a homicide until an exact cause of death can be determined.
This is the fourth violent death to occur within city limits since January.
Green said anyone with information about this death is encouraged to call the Selma Police Department detective division at 874-2125.
