Moorer shines in Lions’ loss

TROY&045;Despite a monster game from Central-Hayneville’s Treymayne Moorer, the Lanett Panthers ousted the Lions from 3A Regional play with a 69-62 win.

Moorer exploded for 27 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort, the junior center shot 11-of-19 from the field as he paced Todd Reynolds’ team but it wasn’t enough.

The Panthers’ LaQuavious Marbury and Greg Boozer finished with 26 and 22 points respectively.

Marbury snagged 14 re-bounds.

Willie Patterson finished with 13 points for Hayneville while Jermon Blackmon added nine.

Jermika Seigler added seven points and nine rebounds while Jesse Harris had six points.

Hayneville hung tough throughout the game, but the Panthers managed to outscore the Lions in every quarter.

Trailing by eight after the first bucket of the fourth quarter, the Lions whittled the lead down to three as Harris hit from downtown and added a pair of free throws.

A couple of quick baskets from Boozer restored the lead and the Lions couldn’t make another push.

Hayneville’s season ended with a record of 13-15.

Antron Floyd added 16 points for Lanett who improved to 24-5 on the season.

With the win, Lanett will advance to play Montgomery Academy for the right to travel to Birmingham for the state tournament next week.
