Jaguars yoke Oxford

TROY- With 2:33 left in Regional action Wednesday night in Troy, Oxford cut the Wilcox Central lead down to four points with a pair of free throws.

The defending 5A state champion team from Camden refused to fold under the pressure.

They scored the last six points of the game to escape with a 70-60 win and advance to the Regional Final against B.T. Washington Friday night at 8:20 p.m.

Senior guard Kedron Blue scored all six to save the day.

All-American forward Michael Williams led the Jaguars from Central with a 23-point, nine-rebound performance.

Williams shot 10-of-15 from the field.

Blue was perfect from the field, hitting 4-of-4.

He finished with 14 points and four assists.

Wilcox 7-footer Yamene Coleman added 13 points.

Allen Crumpton added nine points and Corneal Mixon had eight points in the winning effort.

For Oxford, Damarius Kincaid scored 14 of his team-high 23 at the free throw stripe. Will Ball added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Wilcox closed the first quarter with an 11-4 run and led by nine at the first break. Oxford rallied and cut the lead to three early in the second, but Williams kept them at bay with six-straight points.

A pair of Kincaid freebies reduced the lead to a point, but Coleman answered with a jam.

Wilcox held on for a 34-29 lead at the halftime break.

Oxford refused to back down, but leading by two, Williams sparked a Central run with a fastbreak dunk.

The jam led to a 12-0 run that put Wilcox up 15 at the break.

Using the charity stripe to their best advantage, Oxford stormed back and cut the lead to four before Blue sealed the game.
