Selma CareerLink held it’s first ever Job Fair on Thursday, bringing in hundreds of interested job seekers to learn more about Selma’s industries.

The majority of the participants were high school students who came, quite literally, by the bus load from schools across the county.

Selma CareerLink’s Susan Cosby said while the center has participated in a number of job fairs, this was the first time it hosted one.

Throughout the day, Cosby said, several hundred people walked through the doors of Selma CareerLink to speak with representatives of major companies like Bush Hog, International Paper, and Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Recruiters for the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. were also present, along with the Dallas County Department of Human Resources and the Wallace Community College Selma’s Adult Skills Training program.

Representatives from two local radio stations and Montgomery broadcasting companies were even available to answer any questions.

Cosby said she feels the job fair was an over all success.

The only hindrance came early in the day with a minor gas leak scare, but everything was quickly proven to be safe.

Cosby said hosting this job fair is only a small extent of what Selma CareerLink can do.

Selma CareerLink also works with companies to screen applicants for job openings.

With its vast resources and ability to connect people with jobs, Cosby hopes that at least some of the people who came to the job fair will be able to walk away fully employed.
