Whitt joins MMI

Back in the Dallas County Holiday tournament Marion Military Junior College coach Don Flick sat in the stands at Keith High School as the Bears’ point guard Jeremiah Whitt lit things up on the court.

The coach came back to Keith time and again to watch Whitt play and find out the answer for himself.

He must have liked what he saw.

On Wednesday morning at Keith, Flick signed Whitt to come play at MMI.

An injury his junior year limited Whitt’s exposure to some of the big programs, but Keith coach Joseph Pettway said the best is yet to come.

Whitt isn’t a big guard but he can attack the basket and he fits MMI’s style well.

In the end, it was the coaches ability to sell Whitt on the fact that he can make a difference at MMI.

Whitt should have an impact on more than just the basketball court.

School counselor Jerolene Williams says Jeremiah excels off the court as well.

Whitt, who hopes to study computer science or criminal forensics, is following in the footsteps of Pettway, a former cadet at the school.

Whitt’s mother, Esther, said she’s excited that Jeremiah will be close enough to home she can watch him play.
