Some people choose to live in Selma because they want to help. Corey Bowie is one of them.

Bowie, a lifelong resident of Selma, is grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men’s organization. He joined the organization eight years ago and became grand knight two years ago.

He’s also responsible for coordinating volunteers for Bridge Crossing Jubilee, is past president of the Selma American Heart Association and is the crime task force member for Ward 8.

Bowie is a product of the Selma City Schools system. After graduating Selma High School, he attended Wallace Community College Selma, where he now works as director of financial aid.

Bowie attended Auburn University in Montgomery and Troy State University before he began working as a counselor at the Perry Varner Boot Camp, where he stayed for three years. He then moved to WCCS as the college’s transfer coordinator. As transfer coordinator, Bowie assisted students transferring to other schools.

Three years ago he became the school’s director of financial aid.
