Lilburn S. Rollins

Lilburn S. Rollins, 74, of Selma, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, in Pineview Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dwight Irons and Don Anderson officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hill Rollins; two sons, Michael Rollins of Selma and David (Sherry) Rollins of Ft. Meade, Md.; one brother, R. Kenneth (Bette) Rollins of Palm Beach, Fl.; four granddaughters, Kaylee Rollins of Selma, Ashley Rollins of Prattville, Ashley Eldredge and Colby Eldredge, both of Texas; three nephews and two nieces.

Mr. Rollins was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bertha Rollins and his sister, Eleanor Robinson.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004.

Steven Bentley Vardaman

Steven Bentley Vardaman, 49, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004. Services will be held Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at noon at Wilson Chapel VMC with the Rev. Roger Short, Alton Parris and Audie Hodges officiating. Burial will follow at Wilsonville City Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Jackelyn Price Vardaman, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vardaman.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, from 11 a.m. to noon at Wilson Chapel VMC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wilson Chapel VMC.

Martha Amanda Ellis

Martha Amanda Ellis, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at a Marion nursing home. Graveside services will be held Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at new Live Oak Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two nephews, Jimmy Jones of Birmingham and Lee Jones of Selma; one niece, Joanne J. Givhan of Birmingham and a number of great nieces and nephews.

Ellis was the daughter of Walter Lee and Josephine Walton Ellis. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Attilla Sewell, Wilma Ellis and Annie Lee Jones.

Miss Ellis spent her entire life in Dallas County and was a long-time bookkeeper and office manager at Isadore Kayser and Company in Selma. She was a member of the Church Street United Methodist church and took a leading role in the Business and Professional Women’s club and the American Association of Retired Persons for a number of years.

Robert Willis

Robert Willis, 61, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004. Graveside services will be held Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Doug Chappelle officiating.

The visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Ann (Cathy) Daughtry of Cleveland and Sherri Lynn (Raymond) Campbell of Selma; four grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth Daughtry, Clay Irwin Daughtry Jr., Courtney Elizabeth Campbell and Raymond Logan Campbell; and two special cousins, Harold Mott and Joyce Mott of Selma.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Rawlins, Donny Rawlins, Johnny Stewart, harold Mott, Ted Atkins and James Jones.

Fred Bain Henderson

Fred Bain Henderson, 78, of Millers Ferry, died at his home February 6, 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Liddell Henderson, three sons, Thomas Ervin (Sandra) Henderson; Samuel James (Vivian) Henderson; Timothy Kevin (Raylaine) Henderson; all of Millers Ferry; one daughter, Sara Henderson (Lee) Moore of Lake Jordan; a stepson, Stephen Williams (Marie) Hixon III, Montgomery; a stepdaughter Laura Hixon (David) Darden, Millbrook; two sisters, Hettie Henderson Harrington, Montgomery; Marjorie Bruce Henderson, Camden and 14 grandchildren.

Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by a son, Fred Henderson II and a wife, Mary Ann Cunningham Henderson of Millers Ferry.

Bain Henderson graduated high school from Marion Military Institute in 1943, volunteered for the Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1945. He graduated from Auburn University in 1949 with a degree in Agriculture and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Bain Henderson was a lifetime member of the Wild Turkey Federation, Southeastern Livestock Exposition, Auburn Alumni Association and the American Quarterhorse Association.

Mary Elizabeth Wall

Mary Elizabeth Wall, 78, of Selma, died at a local hospital February 6, 2004.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. John Fain officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a son, Charles Carl (Linda) Wielchowsky Jr., Houston, Texas; two grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Active pallbearers are Jack Williamson, Howard Williamson, Eddie Stone, David Boozer, Jimmy Bedgood, David McFall and Carl Hayes.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday.

Cornelia Morrissette Swift

Cornelia Morrissette Swift, age 86, died Saturday, Feb. 7 at her home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday,

Feb. 9 in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronald Eugene Stone officiating. Burial will be in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Donald Buster, William Russell Buster III, John McCune, David Grubb, Robert Lee Johnson and Samuel McCurdy Kirkpatrick III.

Honorary pallbearers are William Russell Buster and Robert Andrew McCully.

Mrs. Swift was born April 6, 1917 in Monroeville. She was the daughter of Edward Robison Morrissette and Frieda Scott Morrissette. She is survived by a son, William Pope Swift III of Selma; a daughter ,Frieda Swift Murfee of Birmingham; and five grandchildren, Ruth Key Swift, William Pope Swift IV, James Thomas Murfee V, Mary

Robison Murfee and Gaines Morrissette Murfee.

Other survivors include her brother-in-law, George Augustus Swift

and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Pope Swift Jr.

Mrs. Swift was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its Business Women’s Circle. For many years she owned and operated The Needle &8216;n’ Thread Shop on Broad Street.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Sunday at Lawrence Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the General Fund of First Presbyterian Church.

Thelma L. Jackson Todd

Thelma L. Jackson Todd, of Selma, died Friday, January 30, 2004.

Services are at 12 noon, Saturday, February 7, at the Summer Grove Missionary Baptist church with the Rev. A.L. Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two daughters, Juandolyn Todd Fails and Pamela Todd, both of Mobile; son-in-law, Edward Fails of Mobile; two grandchildren, Jaelyn and Ashlin Fails of Mobile; brother, Willie (Bettie) Jackson, Selma; two sisters, Wilma Rodgers, Selma; Vinest Steele of Rockford, Ill.; brother-in-law, Charlie Cunningham of Pensacola, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Todd was employed by the Selma City School System as an elementary school teacher for over 30 years. She was an educator at Knox Elementary School and taught first grade at Payne Elementary for the majority of her career.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association, the Selma Education Association, the Alabama Education Association and the National Education Association.

Repast will be held at Payne Elementary School following the burial services.
