Lady Senators down Ft. Dale

With a trio of players in double figures, the Morgan Academy Lady Senators waxed Fort Dale at home Tuesday night, 45-36.

Morgan went up by double digits late in the third quarter then held the lead at that margin the rest of the way.

Despite foul trouble in the first half, post Elizabeth Elliot broke loose for 16 points and 13 rebounds in the winning effort.

Katie Taylor finished with 10 points but she did most of her damage dishing to her teammates. She added seven assists and two steals.

Ginger Gaines scored eight of her 10 in the second half.

She also had six boards.

It was the balanced effort that helped coach Rick Blevins’ team upset the 10th-ranked team in the AISA.

Blevins also praised the play of some of his reserves,

Elizabeth Watters, Claire Wilkinson, Cursey Oaks and Caroline Woodruff for their play.

Laura Whitney Bennett, Candice Ward, Woodruff and Youngblood scored two points each. Oaks added a single point.

Fort Dale’s Frances Watts came out on fire, connecting on a pair of 3-pointers to open the game.

The Morgan defense and some foul trouble cooled her down and she finished with 13 points to lead the Lady Eagles.

Stephanie Hood hit a trio of 3-pointers in the third quarter for her nine points.

The first half was close, but sluggish.

The team’s went to the break with Morgan leading, 17-14.

With Taylor getting involved and dishing the ball, the Lady Senators go things going in the second half.

Ward got the quarter started, hitting Taylor for two points, then after a Watts’ bucket, Taylor fed Elliott for two.

Gaines hit Taylor for two more than Taylor hit Elliott again for a 25-16 lead.

Hood hit foe three points, but Gaines drove coast-to-coast for a layup.

Hood hit her second 3-pointer of the third quarter.

Elliott hit the defensive rebound and hit Gaines with a long outlet pass for two, then Taylor fed Elliott for two.

With a comfortable lead, Blevins was able to bring in the second team and give the starters a rest for the stretch run.

For two minutes, the second team held their own and the margin of lead until the starters came back in and finished the deal.

JV Morgan-24

Fort Dale-29 (in OT)

Hosting Fort Dale, Morgan Academy’s JV girls went into overtime but lost, 29-24.

Jamie Pilcher led the young Lady Senators with eight points, three rebounds and two steals.

Cursey Oaks had six points, three rebounds and two steals. Sarah Hughey had six points, six boards and a steal. Aly Bradford two points and six boards

and Megan Stough two points.

Hooper-49, Morgan-44

Candice Ward and Katie Taylor led Morgan in the losing effort Friday night at Hooper Academy.

Ward and Taylor had 12 points each in the 49-44 loss.

Elizabeth Elliott had 11 points, Laura Whitney Bennett had four points and Kyser Youngblood added three points.

Claire Wilkinson had two points.

JV Morgan-22, Hooper-21

Jamie Pilcher led Morgan to a JV win, 22-21 over Hooper.

Pilcher had 10 points and Aly Bradford had six points.

Cursey Oaks, Anne Larkin Oaks and Laura Lee Logan had two points each .
