A Selma woman charged with murder sits in the Dallas County Jail under $125,000 bond.

Lizzie Mae Lewis, 41, received the bond from Dallas County District Court Judge Nathaniel Walker at a hearing Tuesday.

According to police reports, Roosevelt Jackson Jr. of Selma was killed after Lewis found him with another woman.

Selma police were dispatched to Craig Motel on Highway 80 East at approximately 7:40 a.m. Monday to assist emergency personnel.

Upon arrival, officer David Hopkins noticed the door to Room 108 was open and an item of clothing was found lying on the pavement in front of the room. Selma Police Chief Robert Green said two females were standing outside of the hotel. &uot;Officer Hopkins interviewed both of these women,&uot; Green said.

It was during this interview that one of the women, Lewis, admitted she found Jackson in the hotel room with another woman and stabbed him with a steak knife. Lewis also told police officers that the victim was her boyfriend.

Lewis was arrested for first-degree domestic violence assault and the victim was rushed by ambulance to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Roosevelt, 46, was pronounced dead at approximately 10:40 a.m.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, Green said, will determine the exact cause of death.

Walker handed down the bond after hearing arguments from Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Mitzi Johnson-Theodoro. Arguments included Lewis’ admission of the crime, a probability of conviction, the violent nature of the crime and Lewis’ history of failing to appear in court on prior occasions, according to Johnson-Theodoro.

Walker appointed local attorney Kyra Sparks as Lewis’ counsel at Tuesday’s hearing. Walker is expected to review the bond at a hearing on Jan. 28.

This incident marks the second murder in almost a year that has been committed near Craig Motel.

On Feb. 11, 2003, Lee Authur King was charged with the murder of Patricia Johnson, whose body was found in the woods behind the motel.
