Community rallies around family

The weekend of Jan. 16-18 turned out to be a weekend that will not soon be forgotten among Selmians and residents of Dallas County.

Walter &uot;Walt&uot; Harrison, a Morgan Academy junior and a member of this year’s AISA 3A state championship football team, died at approximately 9 p.m. Friday when the borrowed car he was driving, with one passenger &045; Ashley Ammons &045; left County Road 2 about 11 miles east of Orrville.

Harrison had just been pronounced dead at the scene by Dallas County coroner Franklin L. Bailey, who was treating passenger Ammons for her injuries, when Bailey suffered a heart attack and had to be rushed to Vaughn Regional Medical Center via ambulance. A second ambulance took Ammons to Vaughn.

Also on scene Friday night was Harrison’s older brother, Jebb, who is a Sheriff’s deputy.

Bailey died after arriving at the hospital.
