According to Crime Stoppers coordinator Capt. Roy Freine of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Helms is wanted on several theft-related charges and for failure to appear. “We have several outstanding warrants on him,” Freine said. “He’s got a substantial history with law enforcement personnel.”

He also, apparently, is a hard man to catch.

Once, local law enforcement personnel spied Helms getting into a dump truck and embarked on what quickly became a high-speed chase. “Our people had to back off,” Freine said, “because the dump truck had a lot of scrap metal parts coming off the back that presented a safety hazard, not only to our people but to the public.”

Another time, law enforcement – acting on a tip – had Helms cornered in the attic of a house in the area. Helms, who was naked at the time, eluded capture by jumping through the floor of the attic into the living room below and making good his escape, according to Freine.

“He’ll do just about whatever he’s got to do to keep from being apprehended,” Freine observed.

Anyone with information about Helms’ whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-44-CRIME.

Callers will be given a code name.

They do not have to identify themselves or testify. If the information provided leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property, callers will receive a cash reward of from $25 to $1,000.

Rewards are usually made within a matter of days.

A conviction is not necessary to collect a reward, only an arrest or the recovery of stolen property.
