Edward Jiles Jr.

Edward Jiles Jr., 55, of Selma, died Friday, January 2, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 8, at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. W. J. Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two aunts, Johnie Reese of Prattville and America Gill of Birmingham; two sisters, Mattie Parker of Selma and Mary Rucker of Docena; godchildren, Jeffery Chapman, Kelvin Harmon and Bonita Chestnut; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Special caregivers, Malcolm Givhan, Al Blackmon and Oscar Barker.

Active pallbearers are family and friends.

Mr. Jiles was born on June 21, 1948, to the late Luverta Crusoe and Edward Jiles Sr.

Mary Elizabeth Amerson

Mary Elizabeth Amerson, 73, of Tyler, Lowndes County, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at a healthcare facility.

Memorial services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January

4, at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home in Montgomery with the Rev. M.R. Bradley officiating and White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her four children, Roger Godwin and wife Robin of Atlanta, Ga., Tina Amerson of Tyler, Cindy Casebere and her husband Danny of Montgomery and Betsy Spivey and husband Henry of Tyler; and nine grandchildren.

Mrs. Amerson was the widow of Claude Amerson, who died in December of 1996. She was born in Wetumpka and spent many years raising her family in South Florida. Together with her husband, Mrs. Amerson opened a country store in Tyler on Highway 22. She will be remembered for her kind and loving manner and her passion for experiencing adventure along the Gulf coast and casinos.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wellness Foundation at the Montgomery Cancer Center, 4145 Carmichael Rd., Montgomery, AL 36106.

Margarette S. Fazzio

Margarette S. Fazzio, of Selma, formerly of Montgomery, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Jay Wolf officiating and Leak Memory Gardens Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Michele and James McNeill Jr.; grandchildren, James McNeill III, Lauren McNeill, and Margaret McNeill

of Selma; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Sue Stewart of Derma, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Fazzio, and her son, Michael Fazzio.

Mrs. Fazzio was a resident of Montgomery for over 50 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Caring Center in Montgomery, AL.

Minnie Pearl Holman, 52, of Selma, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, at a local hospital.

Billy Clyde Kynard

Billy Clyde Kynard, 72, of Selma, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at a Tuscaloosa nursing home.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, in New live Oak Cemetery, with the Rev. Josh Gill officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Elizabeth Kynard.

Survivors include four sons, Buddy Huett, Barry Kynard, Billy Kynard and Berkeley Kynard; a daughter, Deana McMimm; numerous grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Kynard and Charles Kynard; four sisters, Frances Bowden, Hazel Ingram, Bernice Gill and Mary Moore.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Gladys Garrison Barnes

Gladys Garrison Barnes, 100, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at First Baptist Church, and interment will be at New Live Oak Cemetery, with the Rev. Lee Tate officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at First Baptist on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy B. Saunders of Selma; one sister, Elna G. Thompson of Selma; nine grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.A. Barnes; one daughter, Barbara Jackson; and one son, Kenneth Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Bill Smyly, Lynn Smyly, Glenn Smyly, Clifford Melton, Frank Lee and Gary Thompson.

She was a retired telephone operator for Bell South and enjoyed her family and her church. She was a member of First Baptist Church and also enjoyed her time as a member of the Garden Club and the Pioneer Club.
