Killean Clay Adams

Infant Killean Clay Adams, 4 months, of Orrville, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, at his home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Killean is survived and deeply loved by his mother, Bobbie Adams, brother, Jason “Chandler” Higgenbotham; aunts, Jennifer “Aunt Jen Jen” Smith and Mary Beth Smith; grandparents, Angie “Gam-Gam” Adams and Donny “Pappy” Adams; uncles, Alex and Michael Smith and Donny Smith Jr.; first cousin, Dallas Chisenall; honorary uncles, David “Nehi” Jackson, George “Elvis” Finley and Rex “T-Rexx” Rushing; great-great-grandmother, Jesse “Nanny” Tyler; great- grandparent, Bobbie “Granny” Tyler, Patricia “Maw Maw” Smith, Charles “Paw Paw” Smith, Florence and Tommy Strickling; great aunts, Diane Lee, Lenore McKinney, Cindy Smith and Lisa Smith; great-uncles, David Smith and Danny Smith; 11 cousins; and many good people who loved him and whose lives were touched by him.

Active pallbearers are Rex Rushing, George Finley, David Jackson and Patrick Hatch.

Charlie W. Jones

Charlie W. Jones, 91, of Selma, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home with Father Carroll Plourde officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, Lemuel C. Jones of Birmingham and Bruce P. Jones of Selma; three daughter, Minnie C. Hagens of Security, Colo., Augustae Jones-Watkins of Atlanta, Ga., and Valeria I. Jones of Selma; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Alvena Stewart Evans

Alvena, Stewart Evans, 97, died December 26, 2003, at a hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

Memorial services are pending at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Ga.

Survivors include two daughters, Josephine Sisung of Jackson, Mich., Mary Stewart Horsley of Augusta, Ga.; and a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Joy Evans of Gainesville, Ga.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bernard Evans.

Mrs. Evans was born on December 22, 1906 in Selma, and resided in Montgomery, for many years prior to moving to Atlanta. She graduated with a B.A. degree in music from Huntington College in Montgomery, and was an accomplished musician who taught piano professionally, both in the private sector and in the Montgomery County school system. Mrs. Evans was an active member and officer of the No -Name Literacy Club, and taught Sunday school at the Church of the Ascension Episcopal Church in Montgomery.

She was an advocate, and worked for the prevention of child abuse.

Sammie Lee Newell

Sammie Lee Newell, 53, of Selma, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

William Johnson

William Johnson, 50, of Selma, died Monday, December 22, 2003, in Selma.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Walker Mortuary.

Dorothy Nelson Nicol

Dorothy Nelson Nicol, 75, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Services were held Tuesday, December 30, at Sandburg Olpin Funeral Home in Utah.

Survivors include daughters, Rebecca (Mark) Ramey, Cynthia (Roy) Harris, Susan (Tom) Barker, Nancy Nixon and Ramona Nicol; sons, William H. Nicol Jr. and David Nicol; sister, Allie N. Andrews; and brother Jack Nelson of Selma. Robert Nelson of Bremerton, Wash., and Carleston Nelson of Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Nicol, son, Bryan Nicol, brothers, James B. Nelson and Lawrence H. Nelson and sister Carmen N. Willis.

Mrs. Nicol, was a former resident of Selma, a graduate of A.G. Parrish High School. She was employed at Bell South prior to her marriage.
