Marion Military wrestlers bring home medals

The Marion Military Institute College wrestlers traveled to Murfeesboro, Tenn this past weekend to compete in the Third-Annual Middle Tennessee State University Invitational and returned with two gold medals out of the 11 weight classes.

Second-year cadet, James Breaux of Ladson, S.C., and first-year cadet Matt Baker of Gardendale competed at the 285- and 235-pound classes respectively and came home with medals.

Both wrestlers pinned their opponents.

Competition took most of the day on Saturday with nine different four-year colleges and eight unattached competitors represented.

MMI took only five wrestlers and ended the competition in fourth place.

The school took two golds, one third and two fourth place finishes.

MMI finished behind MTSU, Pensacola Christian and the Scots of Maryville College.

They finished ahead of Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Tennessee Temple.

First-year cadet Joe Jeffers, of East Ridge, Tenn., finished in third place.

Thomas Root of Marion, and Nate DeFalco of Mexico, N.Y., each finished fourth.

The team scored a total of 60 points, just 15 behind Maryville.
