RC Hatch sweeps Bears and Lady Bears

UNIONTOWN&045;Up tempo was the theme for this area match Friday night in Uniontown. The RC Hatch Bobcats outran the Keith Bears before a capacity crowd, winning by the score of 65-55.

Both teams exposed their speed and quickness in the first quarter as the home team Bobcats took a 14 – 11 lead to end the quarter.

The Bobcats open the second quarter with a 9-2 run that included a 3-pointer by Quinton Collins.

Coach Joseph Pettway’s team wasn’t about to back down. The Bears cut the lead to 25-19.

That was as close as they would get the rest of the night. Eugene Mason’s Bobcats went on an 8-2 run in the final 2:14 of the quarter. Frederick Lewis contributed 6 points in the run.

The half ended at 33 – 21.

The third quarter opened with a jumper and a lay-up by Lewis. It ended with a 3-pointer each from Lewis and Frank Sullivan along with a dunk and two free throws from Billy Campbell of the Bobcats.

The Bobcats took a commanding 48-32 lead at the close of the quarter.

The Bears turned up the tempo in the final quarter.

They outscored the Bobcats 23-17 with Jeremiah Whitt contributing with 11 points. The Bears got as close as 8 points in the final minutes.

Lewis led the Bobcats with 21 points. Campbell added 15 and Sullivan contributed 13 as the Bobcats go to 11 -1 for the season.

Whitt led the bears with 19 points as they fell to 3-6.

Girls:

Hatch-87, Keith-20

In the girl’s varsity game, the Lady Bobcats eased by the Lady Bears with an 87-20 victory.

Vinecia Dudley scored 21 for the Lady Bobcats with Latoria Paige and Ahjah Mitchell adding 18 points each.

Hatch will host Wilcox Central on Tuesday while Keith will welcome visiting Dallas County.
