Leon Russell Sr.

Leon Russell Sr., 84, of Selma, died Tuesday, December 4, 2003, in Paterson, New Jersey.

Services were held Saturday, December 13, 2003, at Bethlehem Baptist, officiated by the Rev. Henry Jackson.

Mr. Russell is survived by his sons Leon Rusell, Johnny Russell; Bobby Russell; Jessie James Turner; daughter, Mildred Smith-Russell of Las Vegas, Nevada; three sisters, Louise Tate; Mary Lee Russell; Vanilla Bell; four nephews and one neice.

Active pallbearers include family and friends.

Mr. Russell was a retired deacon, heaviliy involved in his church and numerous volunteer activities.

Russell C. Vlack

Russell C. Vlack, of Houston, Texas, died Thursday, December 11, 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Glancy Vlack; brother, Robert Vlack of Prescott, Ariz.; sons, Richard L. Vlack (Ti-Ti-Ek) of Balik Pappan, Indonesia and Robert A. Vlack of Oakland, Calif.; daughter, Diana Vlack Martins (Richard) of Hercules, Calif.; grandchildren, Katie V. Black (Steve) of Atlanta, Ga., Jeanie V. Jones (Bryon) and Russell S. Vlack all of Selma, Christopher Martins of Hercules, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Mary Carolyn Jones of Selma.

Mr. Vlack was a graduate of the University of Southern California and studied at the Colorado School of Mines during his service as a navel officer in World War II. His career began as a petroleum engineer with Signal Oil and Gas Co. He was later vice-president in charge of overseas production.

Ella Mae Rand

Ella Mae Rand, 65, of Orrville, died Thursday, December 11, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 14, at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

Survivors include five sons, Chris (Deonia) Young of Conyers, Ga., Gregory (Clarice) Young of Tyler, Timothy (Shelia) Young of Montevallo, Bobby Rand of Selma and Richard (Ruby) Rand of Demopolis; Three daughters, Jackie (Johnny) Connor of Selma, Barbara (Larry) Mosley

and Mary (William) Rogers all of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, John Rand and William Rand; three sisters, Dorothy Hall, Annie Harris and Nelley Gladney; 14 grandchildren; and nephews, nieces and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Collins and Lilly Young Rand.

Active pallbearers are sons and sons-in-law.

Mrs. Rand was born on May 10, 1938 in Safford. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Siloam Baptist Church where she served faithfully for over 40 years

Family visitation were held on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. , at the funeral home.

Doris Jean Williams

Doris Jean Williams, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Selma, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003.

Delia D. Williams

Delia D. Williams, 93, of Dallas County, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003, in Selma.

Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 13, at New Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Dozier officiating. Burial followed in Fairlawn Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include stepdaughter, Edith M. (Wylie) Crum of Thomasville; Mary Norton of Fairburn, Georgia and Ethel Norwood of Minneapolis, Minn. who she reared as daughters; six nephews and three nieces, Joe and Willa Johnson, Esther (Willie) King and Vera Moore &045; caregivers all of Selma; and a host of other relatives and friend.

Mrs. Williams was born on November 24,1905 to Eli and Mattie Darden in Selma, Dallas County.

She became a Christian at an early age and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church.

She received her education from Selma public schools and received a degree from

Alabama State Teachers College.

She retired from the Dallas County School System in 1971.

She was as affiliated with the Phyllis Wheatley Chapter O.E.S., Friendly Sister and Brother Society, Retired Teacher Association and the National Education Association.

Vera Lois Stevens Colburn

Very Lou Stevens Colburn, 81, of Marion, died Wednesday, December 11, 2003, at a Hale County hospital.

Services area at 2

p.m. Friday, December 12, at Salem Church with the Rev. Arthur Merchant and the Rev. Brian Consley officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.

Survivors include son, John Fuller Ingram of Marion, stepsons, Ray Ingram of Duncanville, Bruce Colburn, Benny Colburn, Ricky Colburn all of Centreville; two daughters, Sylvia Kinard Adams of Centreville and Cheryl Ingram Averette of Greensboro; two step-daughters, Diane Ingram Grimes of Coker and Janet Colburn of Centeville; four grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are William Hill, Jimmy Colburn, Ren Kinard, Kevin Averette, Arthur Thomas, James Fisher, Odis Stevens and Mark Averette.
