For a season that began mired in the confusion of a coaching change, the Alabama State Hornets somehow managed to keep one clear goal in mind.

Now that goal’s attainable.

The Hornets will play for the SWAC Championship Saturday afternoon in Birmingham.

Whether the Hornets can bring the title back to Montgomery or not, it’s been a wild ride for the team, new coach Charlie Coe and Selma native Reggie Glover.

Glover, a redshirt junior, has been a big part of the Hornets passing attack this season.

A receiver, Glover is second on the team with 29 catches for 613 yards on the season. He has four touchdowns catches and a long of 75 yards.

Now, Glover gets the chance to fulfill a life-long dream.

It will be a tall task.

The Hornets, 8-4, face an 11-1 Southern team that beat them earlier in the season.

Still, it’s an chance few would have predicted coming into this season.

With the controversy surrounding the team and then-coach L.C. Cole’s suspension, most doubted that the Hornets could climb above the cellar of the SWAC’s Eastern Division.

The team did just that.

Behind the leadership of Coe and a strong upperclass the Hornets have exceeded expectations.

Now they have a chance to cap of the season with a SWAC title.

Glover credits much of the team’s success to the leadership of the upperclassmen.

Speaking of plates, Glover’s was full this week.

In addition to preparing for one of the biggest games of his life, the computer information systems major had to go through finals as well.

But now, with finals over, Glover can focus on the big game.

Glover can concentrate on helping his team become champions.
