The numbers don’t tell all the story, but they certainly help paint the picture.

Wilcox Central coach Mark Dukes’ front line goes 6-foot-9, 6-foot-10 and 6-foot-7.

That kind of size wouldn’t be bad for an NBA team and would look good in the SEC, but in high school it’s downright deadly.

In his first season as the Jaguars head coach, Dukes led Central a four-loss season and a state title.

This season, the Jaguars don’t expect anything less.

Even more weapons on a team won the state title last year? That’s just not fair.

Already, the Jags have a senior that ranks among the best high school players in the nation.

Senior Michael Williams, a 6-foot-9 University of Texas signee, Williams is big, athletic and has NBA dreams.

Having Williams around certainly has made Dukes life easier as a head coach.

In addition to Williams, Dukes had 6-foot-10 junior Yamene Coleman.

Playing every day against one of the best players in the nation has helped Coleman’s game improve tremendously, according to Dukes.

Then breaking into a smile he added, &uot;We’ll have two of the biggest front court players you’ll see in high school. We will rely on them a lot to set the tempo.&uot;

Coleman and Williams are the only two returning starters, but the Jaguars have plenty of young talent ready to step in and fill the gap.

Senior &uot;small&uot; forward Corneal Mixon is a very athletic 6-foot-7 scorer.

At shooting guard, Allen Crumpton should get an unlimited supply of open looks as defenses double and triple team in the low post.

One slot the Jaguars have to fill is the point guard.

They lost Dejuan Benjamin, who was an All-State player and the MVP of the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game.

He’s playing at Alabama A&M this fall.

The Jags will use several players to help fill the hole.

Senior Kedron Blue started some last season and will play the point for the Jags.

Freshman guard Alquan Mendenhall has future-star written all over him and the future may be now for the sharp-shooter.

The Jaguars, according to Dukes, are going to be able to go 12 depth.

That kind of depth, mixed with the size and talent means Wilcox is going to be a tall order for any team they face.

Dukes, who has a state title ring as a head coach, an assistant and as a player, knows that despite all their talent the Jags have a long road ahead of them.

The Jaguars will find that out first hand as they host 2A State Champion RC Hatch on Tuesday night. Dukes expects the community to come out and support the Jags just like last year
