Selma’s 10th murder of the year was committed early Friday morning outside the Tornado Club on Alabama Avenue, according to a statement by the City of Selma Police Department.

It is the second incident in as many weeks of violent crime in the area.

Tornado Club owner Clyde Richardson denied that the shooting took place in front of his club. He said it happened in the city parking lot at the corner of Alabama and Washington.

Selma Police Chief Robert Green said officers were dispatched to the club after receiving a call reporting gunshots.

The shooting took place at approximately 2:48 a.m. and a single victim was taken to the Vaughan Regional Medical Center by private vehicle.

Three hours later, investigators were notified that 20-year-old Selma resident Eric Huntington died of complications from a gunshot wound.

Green said police have a possible suspect and expects an arrest will

be made soon.

On Oct. 22, a separate shooting took place outside the Platinum Club, across the street from the Tornado on Alabama Avenue, that left three people injured.

Richardson said the victim had not been inside the his club, but was loitering in the parking lot at the end of the block.

Green said he plans to meet with Mayor James Perkins, Jr. and members of the city council to discuss what can be done about the string of violence.

Richardson said it was wrong to lay blame on the club.
