The second annual Kenan’s Mill Fall Festival was a success.

Although the turnout wasn’t as much as they’d hoped for, organizers were satisfied to see an increase from last year’s inagural edition.

Wood &045; along with several other volunteers with the Selma-Dallas County Historical Society &045; are proficient grist mill workers. As proof, they produced souveneir bags of Kenan’s Mill cornmeal the Society gave away for $3 donations. They also sold T-shirts commemorating the event.

Ronnie Hollingshead and Ramsey Knight spent the last two months working to prepare the mill for the festival.

The trio’s efforts paid off, as this year’s event brought more people out to see the mill.

Cornmeal wasn’t the only attraction. The Society hosted a bluegrass concert at this year’s festival. The Alabama Gravy Soppers and The Blue Valley Boys both entertained the crowd. The Central Alabama Animal Shelter had puppies and kittens available for adoption at their booth.

Kenan’s Mill has been a ward of the Society since 1997, when Elizabeth Kenan Buchanan donated it. The mill was reopened in 2002, when operation restarted on a limited basis.
