During the auction segment of Thursday night’s Ducks Unlimited fund raiser banquet held at the Selma Convention center, auctioneer Pierce Lame spotted somebody in the crowd waving to across the room.

The auctioneer jokingly pointed at the man like he’d just bid.

The would-be bidder was a good sport and kept it, but luckily someone took him off the hook with a higher bid.

It was that kind of night.

A few folks got some good bargains, a few more won some great prizes but everyone had fun at the annual banquet and fund raiser.

With door prizes, raffle prizes, a silent auction and a regular auction it was hard for anyone to walk away from the event empty handed.

Among the items auctioned off were several limited edition art prints, a Ducks Unlimited 12-guage shotgun and a dove-hunting trip in Mexico.

The dove hunt was provided by Ducks Unlimited to the Selma Chapter as a reward for their past fund-raising efforts.

Only five chapters in Alabama were awarded the prize.

Bar-b-cue was served before the auction as members of the club scouted out the items on which to bid.

The money raised goes to the Ducks Unlimited national fund.

Ducks Unlimited uses the money for wetland protection to help insure the survival of ducks.

The organization helps support wetlands in Canada were the birds go to nest before migrating southward. DU, a non-profit, charitable organization, works to insure that future generations will be able to enjoy the sporting life previous generations have.
