At the end of the 121st annual meeting of the Selma Baptist Association (SBA) Monday, the Rev. John C. Davis, SBA moderator, and the Rev. James Spicer Sr., vice-moderator, expressed considerable satisfaction with the annual gathering which attracted several hundred participants from Selma and the surrounding area.

Davis, pastor of West End Baptist Church, and Spicer, pastor of Freedom Baptist Church, were both re-elected for a second term by the association at its business meeting held inside the National Guard Armory on U.S. Highway 80 West.

Spicer, who has been at Freedom since its founding in 1987 and pastor since 1997, said that he especially appreciated the activities for children on the front lawn of the armory, and the mission fair display area inside the armory featuring the various ministries supported by SBA. Freedom church, which is also a part of the Shady Grove District Association of the Alabama Missionary Baptist State Convention, was received into fellowship with SBA in 1994, Spicer said.

Davis said that into addition to the fair, he always enjoys the fellowship in the annual meeting itself, which includes business reports, recognition of achievements, review and approval of the budget, and the election of officers.

Especially important is the encouragement of one another, he said.

Davis is excited about what he called &uot;bold and energetic&uot; plans approved for the coming year, including the 2004 Selma-Dallas County Men’s Conference to be held Feb. 20-21 on the Concordia College campus, featuring nationally recognized speakers Dr. Tony Evans, Dr. Steve Farrar and the Rev. Chette Williams.
