The big games just keep coming for Robert Gartman and his Morgan Academy Senators.

Standing at 6-1 and ranked fifth in the AISA, the Senators go on the road Friday night to battle fourth-ranked Monroe Academy.

Earlier in the year, Gartman said that the three-game stretch of Faith, Fort Dale and Macon-East would be the toughest of the season.

Things have changed.

Many experts didn’t expect Morgan to be as strong as they are, either.

Pretty good, indeed.

Morgan picked up their sixth win of the season last week on convincing fashion. They beat Cottage Hill in what amounted to a warm-up for this week’s game.

The Senators’ defense faces a big challenge this week in the Monroe ground attack.

While Williams is a definite threat, Gartman said the Senators won’t make huge adjustments in their plan for stopping Williams.

Monroe will have to be ready to stop the Morgan attack as well.

The Senators, who already possess a potent ground game, opened up the passing attack and went down field last week.

Monroe will have to guard against quarterback Travis Lyon using the air attack.

Monroe will also have to be ready for a Morgan team that has improved its’ depth up front.

The results have been impressive.

A fresher Walt Harrison has been a terror for opponents since the move.

Last week he broke up several plays in the backfield, chasing quarterbacks and running backs down from behind.

This could be the key point in the season for Morgan.

Last year the Senators were 6-1 at this point, they lost to Monroe and the team went into a tailspin.

That’s scary news for the rest of the AISA.
