When Selma Police Department investigators arrived at the scene, they found the electricity to Gray’s house was off. They theorize that Gray was shot when he went outside to check on the power.

Nearby witnesses reported hearing multiple gun shots coming from the area of the crime. Police found shell casings from a 9mm handgun at the scene. Several witnesses provided police with descriptions of possible suspects and a vehicle.

No motive for the crime has been established at this time.

Jacobs declined to say when an arrest would be made, &uot;but I have all the confidence in the world in saying that one will be made – and soon.&uot;

Gray’s death is the ninth murder that has occurred in Selma this year. Seven arrests have been made in those cases, each one within a week of the incident.

Jacobs pointed to two cases in the same area of Gray’s death, which occurred a few days after the shooting. One involved a home invasion and shooting of a DVD player; the other concerned a home invasion and robbery. Officers found 14 bullet holes on the side of one man’s home in the latter case.

Investigators continue to gather evidence in the case of Gray’s death. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-44-CRIME.

Callers will be given a code name. They do not have to identify themselves or testify. If the information provided leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property, callers will receive a cash reward of from $25 to $1,000.

Rewards are usually made within a matter of days. A conviction is not necessary to collect a reward, only an arrest or the recovery of stolen property.
