Three Selma men were engaged in a hot pursuit with police officers yesterday afternoon, with the suspects nearly endangering the lives of a crowd of people.

According to the police report, at approximately 4:33 p.m. task force officers John Christian and Carlos Jones were patrolling in the area of Minter Avenue and St. Phillips Street when they noticed excessively loud music coming from a vehicle.

The report states that the music could be heard from more than a block away. As the officers approached in an unmarked patrol car, the suspects drove through a crowded area at a high rate of speed.

Christian and Jones continued to follow the vehicle and relayed the directions in which they were traveling.

Another officer, Doug Stewart, was patrolling in a marked police unit when he spotted the suspects heading west on Eugene Avenue towards Marie Foster Street.

After attempting to elude capture by quickly turning into a nearby alley, the suspects finally realized that their move was not a very smart one.

The two police units were able to block the alleyway exits.

Kelvin James Webster, 23, then exited the suspected vehicle and tried to get away, but he was quickly placed under arrest.

Two other individuals, Dexter Dewan Minter and Terrance Deman Hunter, were also taken into custody during the incident.

Officers found what appeared to be cocaine in Webster’s possession and inside the vehicle. They also located a .25 caliber pistol underneath the driver’s seat.

Webster was charged with reckless driving, attempting to elude and possession of a controlled substance.

His bond was set for $2,500 for each offense.

Minter, 24, was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $3,000.

Hunter, 25, of Selma was charged with possession of a controlled substance and also received at $2,500 bond.

Selma Police Chief Robert Green said this was the second arrest since he started strictly enforcing the city noise ordinance.

All three suspects were

processed and taken to the Dallas County Jail.
